Do you ever get random cake cravings? Yea me too 😊… I have a sweet tooth and sometimes i just have to get some CAKE..
My mom used to make orange cake as we were growing up… So it is the first cake flavor i learnt to bake… And it’s also the first cake recipe I’m sharing in my blog😊… You’re gonna see more though cause i looove baking!
I’m sure going to be the kind of mom that dances in the kitchen at 2am baking some cookies or something 😂
I don’t know why i can’t seem to introduce a recipe without having to mention my mom… Oh hi mum 😍…
So over time I’ve cooked orange cakes adjusting the ingredients just so as to get it right… To get a veery fluffy yummy cake🤤… I’m publishing this post loong after we’ve eaten all of the cake and I kinda want to go and bake one like right now cause I’m craving it already 😂… But first 😊, I’m gonna give you the recipe :
But before that i just want to say this… You don’t need fancy kitchen equipment, or utensils or anything in order to cook/bake like a pro… You just have to use whatever you have! That said, i don’t have a mixer😅 cause I’m still saving up to buy one😊...That doesn’t prevent me from eating cake… Or does it? 😂
1.All ingredients should be at room temperature.
2. Read the full recipe first then prepare all the ingredients first.
3.Measure all the ingredients accurately so as to get the perfect cake.
4.Grease the pans well. You could mix everything really well but mess up at the final stage when the cake sticks on the pan. Ouch!
5.Do not mess with oven temperature while cooking and cooking time too… Which means you shouldn’t open the oven door unnecessarily.
6.Let the cake cool completely!
500g self raising flour.
150g white sugar
100ml vegetable oil
2 eggs beaten
1 tbsp vinegar
Orange zest from 1 orange (then juice from the same orange)
1.Preheat oven to 180C and prepare your baking tins that is greasing or adding parchment paper.
2.Add the vinegar to the milk and set that aside. It will look thick or curdled but that’s a good thing.
3.Now in a large bowl, cream together the sugar, margarine and vegetable oil.
Cream this until it’s creamy and well combined.
4.Add the orange zest and the juice of the orange. This gives the cake a super delicious flavor.
Again, mix it well.
5.Now add the beaten egg and mix well.
To get something like this… You have to give each step the love it deserves 😊!
6.Sieve some flour into the egg mixture and add some milk mixture.
Mix it well…
7.Alternate adding the flour and milk mixture into the egg mixture, mixing well every time. Until you get a smooth batter. Be careful not to overmix.
8.Now transfer your batter into the prepared baking tins.
9. Put in thr oven preheated at 180C for 30-35 minutes.
Check using a skewer, if it comes out clean then your cake is ready.
10.Let the cake cool completely! If you greased the baking tin well then it should be no problem transferring the cake to a plate.
You can add some frosting on your orange cake or if you’re like us just dig in 😊…
